Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Liaison Outreach Coordinator and reporting to the Manager of Recruitment, the Liaison Officer is responsible for ensuring that the University of Guelph-Humber is meeting undergraduate enrolment targets by generating a strong applicant pool of qualified students in an increasingly competitive post-secondary environment. The incumbent exercises extensive independent action and judgment while traveling to approximately one hundred high schools within Ontario and delivering dynamic and informative presentations about the University of Guelph-Humber to prospective students, families and Guidance Counsellors. As an ambassador of the University, the incumbent will have extensive knowledge about the University’s programs, admission process, scholarships, student services and will represent the University positively at various recruitment and public relations activities. The incumbent will be responsible for advising prospective applicants and their families, assisting in the planning and implementation of recruitment events on and off campus, preparing visit reports, responding to inquiries, building relationships with Guidance Counsellors and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will possess an undergraduate degree in a related field along with relevant experience in the student recruitment, liaison, registrarial/student services, public relations or marketing environment. Other qualifications include: outstanding public presentation and interpersonal skills; demonstrated understanding of all aspects of diversity in a secondary school environment; strong computer skills (email, word processing, powerpoints and spreadsheets); flexibility and ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment; well-developed judgment and problem-solving skills; superior verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills. At all times the incumbent demonstrates energy, enthusiasm for meeting new people and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service. The travel component of this position requires the successful incumbent to hold a valid Ontario ‘G’ level driver’s license, have access to a personal credit card (all travel expenses are reimbursed) and be available to travel away from home for several nights at a time. In addition, this position requires the incumbent to work non-traditional hours as well as some weekends.
